As I transition into the role of Executive Director of the Northeast Soccer League (NSL), I am both excited and confident about the next phase in our journey.  I am excited because the league is poised to be stronger than ever and I am confident about providing our membership with the best possible soccer experience.

I would personally like to thank Tom Goodman for all of his hard work and contributions on the transition from MAPLE to the NSL.  Tom is enjoying a well-deserved break to spend time with his family and will return to coach young players and educate coaches in the near future.

As we enter the next phase in the development of the league, I am very excited about where the league is headed and the new opportunities that will be available to our membership.  My hope is to move forward as quickly possible with the help and assistance of Nick Dunbar, the NSL Technical Director.

One of our main tasks moving forward will be to engage with the current membership, listen to their needs, and to develop an action plan designed to provide the best opportunities for all our clubs, teams, and players.  Our focus will be to align the needs of the membership with the league’s three main objectives:

  • Compete – Continue to develop an environment for player development through quality competition.
  • Develop – Build a higher level of regional competitive structure for all of our members.
  • Succeed – Provide our clubs, teams, and players clear pathways for competitive play in the Northeast region and on a national stage.

I am encouraged by the direction and development of the NSL and I invite all our members to engage with us.  Get in touch by emailing me at ExecutiveDirector@nslsoccer.org.

Happy new year to all our member clubs!   I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of some very important events coming up over the next few months, regarding coach and club development.

On Saturday, January 28th the NSL will be involved in the Mass Youth Soccer Workshop in Fitchburg.  John Barata, our new Executive Director, will be involved in a workshop along with Tom Goodman, our past Executive Director.  After the event, we will be hosting a social event for all of our members and I look forward to meeting many of you there.  Click here to register for the social event.

Other upcoming events include a DOC and Referee Officials meeting on Saturday, February 11th.  We hope to have a small working group of clubs and officials to discuss some of the challenges we face in the youth game and how we can support and assist each other. Another event is the Champions Coaches Clinic at the Mohegan Sun on February 23rd to 25th. This event has some great speakers and presenters and also offers you the opportunity to secure your USSF E license. The College Recruitment Seminar will be held on Thursday, March 2, at Olin College at 7:00 pm.  The address for the event is 1000 Olin Way, Needham, MA.

We will also be working with our NSCAA partner to promote their DOC Diploma on March 10th, 11th, and 12th in Boxford MA.  We will be confirming more events in the near future that will include workshops with Positive Coaching Alliance and another NSCAA Diploma for 11v11 coaches.

This spring we will be working with Connecticut Youth Soccer, Mass Youth Soccer and Eastern New York Youth Soccer to develop the NSL Elite division.  Invitations have been sent out to some of the top teams across the 13U to 19U age groups and major announcements on the league, its format, and structure will be made by February.

The league feels strongly that the introduction of this regional format will greatly enhance our programs and allow clubs to retain, attract, and develop their top talent whilst still providing a pathway for all players and teams to aspire to.
